Project Description and Purpose

The HISTORY COMPETITION MOLDOVA, 5th edition (2025-2026), aims to improve the quality of historical education, encourage critical analysis of topics related to War and Peace in the history textbooks, and promote education for sustainable peace in the Republic of Moldova.

Building on both German and local expertise, the project aims to develop an innovative educational module for history teachers and ensure the sustainability of the History Contest Network as a tool for civic education. The initiative seeks to enhance school teaching by fostering stronger connections among civil society, academia, and the Republic of Moldova’s educational system.

A key objective is to equip history teachers with a comprehensive toolkit to critically address sensitive subjects related to peace and war in learning and research. Additionally, the project will provide resources to support the analysis of peace and war narratives in national history textbooks, promoting a more nuanced and responsible approach to teaching the past. Equally important is the contest’s goal of encouraging middle and high school students to conduct original research on local and national history, fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and active engagement with their cultural heritage.
